Cacoxenite is a mineral that is commonly an inclusion in quartz, especially amethyst. The inclusions in amethyst often enhance the Amethyst as the brown acicular needles contrast the pure purple color to a more desirable specimen. The inclusions of Cacoxenite have become more popular as gemstone. Cacoxenite is a scarce phosphate mineral and known from classic phosphate localities. It is often associated with other attractive and rare phosphates and can therefore represent some very interesting mineral specimens.
Acicular, in minerology, refers to a crystal habit composed of a radiating mass of slender, needle-like crystals. Minerals with this habit tend to be fragile, and complete, undamaged specimens can be uncommon. Lucky for us the Cacoxenite is in the Amethyst.
