Kyanite  Al2 SiO5.

The mineral Kyanite is a polymorph with two minerals, Andalusite and Sillimanite.  It has a unique characteristic in that it has a wide variation in hardness.  When scratched parallel to the long axis of the crystal, the hardness of Kyanite is 4.5.  When scratched perpendicular to the axis it is approximately 6.5.
