FLUORESCENT ZIRCON CRYSTAL 40
Fluorescent Zircon Crystal 40. Also known as a Zircon Bomb. Deep red brown colour in the sunlight and fluorescent yellow under UVA and UVC. It is rare to get yellow fluorescent minerals let alone in Crystal form. A super collectors specimen and rare. Classic location too. I spoke to the Professor about the fluorescence source and he suspects it comes from a mild form of radiation. Thus also not a good idea to cut these gemstones into pendant, as it is worn close to the Thyroid Gland. So let that be a warning about Zircons worn as pendants.
Dimensions:
7.4cm x 4.1cm x 3.5cm, 210g.
Location:
Mud Tank, Northern Territory, Australia.
Zirconium Silicate:
ZrSiO4.
Zircons reputation has suffered of late due to the introduction of a diamond simulant. So for the record, zircon is not the same material as the artificial gem material Cubic Zirconia (or CZ). Zircon can make a very attractive and affordable gemstone. Zircon is the December Birthstone.
