MALACHITE LAPIDARY SLAB
This is a rough Malachite Lapidary Slab, ready to be crafted into cabs or pendants at your local Lapidary Club. Once this piece has been cut and polished it will be a beautiful dark forest green colour, with some banding through it. It is this rich colour and banding that makes Malachite such a popular mineral. It is also a nice soft stone to work with, being a 4 on the Moh’s Scale of Hardness.

Named in antiquity by Pliny the Elder 79 CE molochitus after the Greek mallows in allusion to the green color of the leaves. Known in the new spelling, malachites, at least by 1661.
Malachite is a green and common secondary copper mineral with widely variable habit. Typically found as crystalline aggregates or crusts, often banded in appearance like agates. It is also often found as botryoidal clusters of radiating crystals, and as mammillary aggregates. Single crystals and clusters of distinguishable crystals are uncommon, but when found they are typically acicular to prismatic. Frequently found as a pseudomorph after Azurite crystals, which are generally more tabular in shape.

CUPRITE CRYSTALS
A cluster of awesome Cuprite Crystals. This specimen shows great octahedral crystal shape and in the sun or very bright torch the beautiful red colour is visible. A true collection piece is rare and hard to find great Cuprite specimens like this one. There is Copper and Silver Oxide in the crevices of the Cuprite. My photos don’t do this specimen justice and sorry about the blurry ones. This piece is from the private collection.
