SHUNGITE PYRAMID SMALL

A striking Shungite Pyramid Small Polished.  The base edges have been beveled and all faces are highly polished.

SHUNGITE

Shungite is a very popular mineral for its many interesting uses, including water purification and its metaphysical properties.   As you may notice when comparing the size with the weight of this mineral, it is very light.  That is the carbon component at hand.  It is also the carbon that lends itself to water purification.  These specimens come with a pouch.  What you see is what you get – the photos are the exact same as what you will receive.

Shungite is an intriguing material.  The name of the stone comes from the village of Shunga not far from the Zazhoginskoy mine.  Shungite has unique mineral properties.  The solid possesses sorption, catalytic and antibacterial properties.  It has been known of for centuries in Russia where people would bath in water from the area for its curative properties.

Shungite has been used in medical treatment since the early 18th century. Peter the Great set up Russia’s first spa in Karelia to make use of the water purifying properties of shungite, which he had himself experienced. He also instigated its use in providing purified water for the Russian army. The anti-bacterial properties of shungite have been confirmed by modern testing.

Fullerenes:

It is the presence of Fullerenes in Shungite that generates much of the interest in the material.  Discovered in 1985, a Fullerene is a molecule of carbon in the form of a hollow sphere, ellipsoid, tube, or other shape.  Only minute quantities of Fullerenes, in the form of C60, C70, C76, C82 and C84 molecules, are produced in nature.  Hidden in soot and formed by lightning discharges in the atmosphere.  The Fullerene family, and especially C60, has appealing photo, electrochemical and physical properties.  These properties can be exploited in various medical fields.  In 1992, Fullerenes were found in Shungite from Zazhoginskoy.
