WILLEMITE FRANKLINITE CALCITE
A stunning specimen of Willemite Franklinite Calcite showing off the brightest fluorescence of all natural minerals Willemite. This rare special specimen is short and long wave fluorescent. The dark grey metal shown in the natural light photos is Zinc ore Franklinite. The white mineral is Mangano Calcite which in this case shows BIP Brief Intense Phosphorescence. Pics taken with shortwave, longwave, and sunlight. Very cool stuff and this is one of my very favorite rocks. To view this spectacular specimen you will need a UVC Shortwave Lamp and UVA Longwave Lamp. Make sure you wear safety glasses. This specimen shows Willemite Phosphorescence, which is when you take your UVC short wave away it will phosphoresce for a few secondss. Willemite Franklinite Calcite is also known as the Christmas Tree Rock for the colours Green and Red. This is a quality collectable specimen with wow factor.

Willemite is a rare zinc mineral. Was found in great abundance at Franklin New Jersey that it instantly became an important ore of zinc. The deposit at Franklin, New Jersey is unique. Minerals such as Zincite, Franklinite, Rhodonite, Greenockite, fluorescent Calcite and various zeolites. In the case of Willemite the secondary minerals were probably Smithsonite and Hemimorphite. At other localities for Willemite it is more scarce and forms as a secondary mineral from primary zinc deposits.
Renamed in 1830 in honor of William I, King 1813-1840 of the Netherlands.

Franklinite is from Franklin, New Jersey. World famous location that produced many formerly unknown and exotic minerals. Found in large enough quantity to serve as a ore of Zinc and Manganese, two important strategic and industrial metals. It forms octahedral crystals that are typical of the Spinel group of minerals. Specimens from Franklin often contain the rounded black grains of Franklinite nearing an Octahedral Spinel Crystal shape. Usually associated with white Calcite, green tan Willemite and red Zincite. Specimens of this exotic interesting mineral are valued by mineral collectors.

Calcite name is from chalix the Greek word for lime. This is a most amazing yet, common mineral. Comprising about 4% by weight of the Earth’s crust and formed in many different geological environments. Calcite can form rocks of considerable mass and constitutes a significant part of all three major rock classification types. It forms oolitic, fossiliferous and massive limestones in sedimentary environments. Calcite serves as the cements for many sandstones and shales. Limestone becomes marble from the heat and pressure of metamorphic events. A major component in the igneous rock called Carbonatite and forms the major portion of hydrothermal veins.
Calcite is so abundant and widely distributed it is no wonder that it can be so varied. The crystals of calcite can form literally a thousand different shapes. By combining the basic forms of the positive rhombohedron, negative rhombohedron, steeply, moderately and slightly inclined rhombohedrons, various scalahedrons, prism and pinacoid to name a few of the more common forms. There are more than 300 Calcite crystal forms identified and these forms can combine to produce the thousand different crystal variations. Calcite also produces many twin varieties, they are favorites among twin collectors. There are also phantoms, included crystals, color varieties, pseudomorphs and unique associations. Fluorescent Calcites often contain Lead and Manganese.
