MOLYBDENITE SPECIMEN
An Australian Molybdenite Specimen. There several Molybdenite Crystals on a Quart matrix. Hard to find in this size. This specimen sits and displays well naturally. Molybdenite is the ore of molybdenum. A great addition to your metals collection. Some are using specimens like this Molybdenite Crystal as a power transistor by slight modification in the lab. Hard to find in this size.
Location:
Wolfram Pipe, Kingsgate, NSW, Australia.
Dimensions:
8.8cm x 8.8cm x 8cm, 639g.
MoS2
Molybdenum Sulfide.
Molybdenite is a very soft metallic mineral. It can be easily confused with graphite, but not with many other minerals. Graphite has a darker black silver color and a black to gray, brown to gray streak, whereas Molybdenite has a bluish to silver color and streak. It is soft enough to leave a mark on paper and fingers. The greasy feel is due to extreme softness. Molybdenite or “Moly Ore” as it is sometimes called, is a very high luster mineral and is an interesting mineral to add to your collection.
