RHODONITE GALENA
A great specimen of Gemmy Rhodonite Galena Crystal. A cluster of deep red crystal Rhodonite on a Galena matrix. On Sale limited time til 18 02 2017. A classic for the Aussie mineral collection. Very good crystal colour and shape and not so easy to get these days. A worthy addition for any collector. This specimen is mounted on a 5cm x 5cm perspex pad for enhanced display. My photos don’t do this piece justice as they are a little blurry and it is darker red to the live eye.

Galena is the primary ore mineral of lead. Worked for its lead content as early as 3000 BC, it is found in ore veins with sphalerite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, tennantite-tetrahedrite, etc. and in skarns, as well as in sedimentary rocks where it may replace carbonate beds or be deposited in pore spaces.
