GLAUBERITE CRYSTALS
A lovely specimen of Glauberite Crystals. Initially these specimens are clear when first fished out of the mud with cut and bloodied hands. They turn white after contact with the Oxygen in the air. The fossicker who fished this one told me the second day was worse when cuts on his fingers were roughed up again. This happens when feeling around deep in the mud for them. Great fun. This is a rare and unusual Aussie mineral. The last big one found in an old box.

TOP BLACK JADE ROUGH
A grade Top Black Jade Rough ready for a crafts person to carve or make jewellery with. This is genuine true black nephrite jade from Cowell, South Australia (the best Black Jade in the world). This variant of jade is becoming more popular and is used, in particular, for carving into super-lustrous pendants and jewellery. One of the toughest rocks on the planet. The Black colour is from an inclusion of Iron of up to 8%. This is the best specimen from a lot of 1000kg.
To be honest I was hoping to save this one for my self but have no time for cutting stones. The stone has three cut faces with a square corner which makes it easy to hold in a vice for diamond saw cutting. There is the expected slight green that you can see with a strong Jade torch. One face you can see is polished roughly to 3000. Some pics are with wet and dry stone to show the quality of colour and polish with great reflection. This stone is best polished with aluminium oxide then diamond to get the mirror finish. You can see the reflection of a beautiful flower in the polished window on this Jade Stone.
Location:
Cowell, South Australia, Australia.Dimensions:
28cm x 22cm x 16cm, 17500g.Jade is a name that was applied to ornamental stones that were being brought to Europe from China and Central America. It wasn’t until 1863 that it was realized that Jade was being applied to two different minerals. The two minerals are both exquisite for the purposes that jade is put to task and are hard to distinguish from each other. Now both are called Jade.

AUSSIE AMETHYST CRYSTAL
A great Aussie Amethyst Crystal. Good natural point and some iron staining around the base of crystal. Just as it was when it came out of the ground. Australian Amethyst is not all that common, and many people do like to have a piece from here. This piece has a great termination and fits well in the hand. The Purple is so dark it appears black on a cloudy day. This specimen was difficult to photograph. One pic is backlit with a torch, other pics taken out doors on cloudy and bright sun days. There are some interesting internal zoning patterns also visible in the photos.
