BLACK JADE NEPHRITE 01
Stunning Black Jade Nephrite 01 ready for slabbing or carving. This is genuine Black Nephrite Jade from Cowell. The grade is A grade and is very hard to come by, the grade comes from being a solid dark black with tight grain and no or minimal inclusions of material like white Tremolite specs. Colour is black, with a thin rind fading to green grey. This variant of jade is popular and is used, in particular, for carving into super-lustrous pendants and jewellery.
One of the toughest rocks on the planet. The Black colour is from an inclusion of Iron of up to 8%. The stone has two cut faces which makes it easy to hold in a vice for diamond saw cutting. The slight translucency that I can see is with a strong Jade torch. BLACK JADE NEPHRITE 01. This stuff is best polished with aluminium oxide then diamond to get the mirror finish. This particular piece will be bought for cutting into jewellery, as a mineral specimen or as an appreciating asset. This grade of Jade only goes up in price as time goes by.

Calcite CaCO3.Lazurite is a popular but generally expensive mineral. Well-formed, deep blue crystals are rare and valuable. It is more commonly found massive and combined with other minerals into a rock called lapis lazuli. Lapis lazuli or lapis for short is mostly lazurite but commonly contains pyrite and calcite and some other minerals. The name means “blue rock” and is always a brilliant blue with violet or greenish tints. The rich blue colour is due to the sulfur that is inherent in the structure of lazurite. Small crystals of pyrite are always present in lapis and their brassy yellow colour is both attractive and diagnostic in distinguishing lapis from its also blue cousin – sodalite rock, which lacks pyrite.

Al2O3.Corundum is called Sapphire except red Sapphire which is called Ruby. The word sapphire comes from the Greek word for blue, sapphirus. Only a few hundredths of a percent of iron and titanium can cause the colour, and the more iron the corundum contains, the darker the blue. A rare sapphire is a Padparadscha which is a pinky peach colour, found in Sri Lanka. The best shade of red for a Ruby is Pigeon Blood Red. Ruby can be any shade of red up to almost pink.
